Earworm of the Week

 

This week's earworm is dedicated almost entirely to New by Paul McCartney. A few weeks ago, our track list at work finally changed and with it, came this song. For the longest, I just listened, then decided I needed to find this song. I thought New was familiar in that it was from a soundtrack. I began my search with the Cornetto trilogy and when that didn't yield results, I attempted the top charts lists on Spotify. When that didn't work, I googled any variation of the lyrics I could remember--even the app where one hums the tune and searches. BUT I COULDN'T FIND THE FUCKING SONG. I was willing to listen through all of Queen's albums. I could see this as one of their off-beat songs, yeah?

But then, no, I would write down all the lyrics during my shift then hunt this bitch down. Only: fast forward two weeks until the song played again. I scribbled the lyrics I could just make out over the sounds of carts and customers ooo-ing and aah-ing over our sales. By the time I was home, the slip of paper with the lyrics had fallen out of my pocket. Thank fuck I focused on the lyrics that time. Which is how I finally found the damn song.

I'd also like to mention, I found a boy band I like! Shout-out to my penpal, Karen, for finding this gem. I knew there were other genres of Korean boy bands, I obviously didn't know how to search properly. What Is Love is their, apparently, 2015 single, but I've been listening to their Spotify profile on shuffle for a while and all their music is delightful. The other two videos, below, are Sia's Elastic Heart and Bidi Bidi Bom Bom . Initially, I was weary of Shia LaBeouf , due to his shenanigans and whatnot, but I really, really like this music video. I mean, Sia hardly ever falls short for me, and I figured Elastic Heart wouldn't be a disappointment as a song, but wooo, that video sure is rad.

The twentieth anniversary of Selena's death was yesterday. If ya'll haven't educated yourselves on who she was, do yourself a favor. Also, watch the Selena film starring JLO. And, you know, listen to lots and lots of her music. I remember watching the film as a kid and becoming enamored with her. Just, blughsd, imagine where Selena's music could have gone. ;A; 

 

EOTW: Froot

In no way am I qualified to critique a music album. The amount of film versus music I have indulged in is laughable. I am super guilty of listening to the same artists continuously, until I get tired of the same ol' songs. My music library is a sad little place. I'd like to add new artists--I go to my sister's starred on Spotify--but I'm terrible at searching music. This is why I am a fan of the international lists on Spotify. Actually, I'm on the hunt for new Japanese music that isn't hard rock. The best I've found is this techno/indie playlist on 8tracks. What I want is a band I can follow, buy merch, etc. A lot of popular Japanese artist in the West are Miyavi, Gackt, and The Gazette. So much hard rock!

I was attempting to get into 2NE1 and boyband/girlbands from Korea, but it's not going so well. I'm just not into that type of music anymore. There are a few songs here and there that are nice, but not an artist as a whole.

Back to Marina and the Diamonds. I love the new look! Her Electra Heart vixen was a fabulous character and I'm excited to see what she does with this new album. I like this progression from the Mid-Century into the seventies. I'm attempting to watch the music videos as I type this, but she still seems to be a "rich bitch". I say this with love! I like seeing cohesiveness among album ideals and aesthetics. That's not to say albums/artists who don't follow this aren't at the same level.

EDIT: I'm not noticing a theme among the videos. I.e. the subject of each is drastically different. However, there seems to be a short montage of Marina in glamour attire among all the videos.

Marina looks much more mature now~ In an aged way. Both versions of herself are lovely, but I prefer Electra Heart on a purely aesthetic level. Perhaps, the more videos I watch the more attached I'll become to this "new" Marina?

I've listened to the entire album. As a whole, I like it. A lot. The songs and lyrics are ripe for a seventies inspo. Her voice is still a haunting alto. Unfortunately, I can't tell individual songs apart. My first listen through, I had the music playing background while I surfed the web. For three? four? songs, I was under the impression a single track was playing. Not until I checked, did I find I had been through quite a few. Perhaps, this is because I've only listened twice through?

I guess, the songs aren't different enough to actively tell the difference--unlike Electra Heart. I could easily distinguish between the track list of Electra Heart, regardless if I was browsing the web or focusing solely on the music.

Alright! It's been a minute since I've posted some music, but I've been streaming the same songs on repeat. Whoops.  I like soundcloud, but I know their embeds can get a tad wonky; apologies if this happens. I'd like to send ya'll over to the playstore for this week's free music, which has a generally expansive genre selection every week. TBH, I didn't know this was a thing until I was looking for something (I have no idea, now...) and BAM! They had a free album of the week along with free singles. 'Cept, now they don't do the album? They have 0.99$ albums, but I prefer free stuff, so. In The Lonely Hour (5.99) and LP1 (9.99) are there too! But, y'know, Spotify usually has the albums~
